Self - Assessment

What are your interests, values, abilities, strengths, experiences, and personality type? Through self-assessment you can better understand how certain majors and careers may be a better fit for you. Isn’t it better to discover your interests now, while still in college, then to find out many years later when stuck in a career field that does not hold your interest? Self-assessment is usually the first place to start. The Career and Professional Education Center can help you learn more about yourself and how to apply this information to the world of work.

Here are some things that you can do to get started:

  • Meet with a career counselor to identify your interests, abilities, strengths, values, experiences, and personality type. Call for an appointment.
  • Complete Focus, an online career inventory of your interests, values and abilities and have your results interpreted by a career counselor.
  • Register for UNC 111: Career Planning in Theory and Practice, a credit bearing course designed to help you choose a major/career.
