Major: Forensic Chemistry & Anthropology
Expected Graduation: May 2021
Hometown: Suwanee, GA
Desired Career Path: To obtain a master’s degree and PhD in forensic anthropology

Nomination Statement:
Sheana has demonstrated excellency in all her personal and academic pursuits since meeting her in the fall of 2020. I met Sheana through a mentee/mentor connection program, Buffalo State Success. Sheana shared goals of earning a master's degree and PhD, ultimately to become a forensic anthropologist and educator. Initially, we met for resume and cover letter appointments, which transitioned to constructing personal statements and for her SUNY President's Medal and Chancellor's Award portfolio. Sheana worked diligently to craft her materials and was selected as a President's Medal and Chancellor's Award finalist and was accepted into Mercyhurst University for grad school. Sheana moved over 800 miles from her home in Suwanee, GA to attend college and has since proved to be a model student and scholar. She has served as a RA and teaching assistant to build a sense of community and belonging for students, is a Muriel A. Howard Honors scholar, maintained a 4.00 GPA with two majors, and has amassed several research projects (undergrad and graduate) - all while battling effects from a serious medical condition, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Sheana has remained focused on her academic and professional goals and has always been a pleasure to work with. Our latest collaboration was preparing personal statements for MD/PhD and PhD programs. In the fall of 2023, Sheana will be attending the University at Buffalo for the PhD program of Biomedical Sciences, furthering her goal of becoming a forensic anthropologist. I am honored to be a small part of her journey.
